Onsager’s Scars in Disordered Spin Chains

News 2020/05/16

Naoyuki Shibata graduate student, Nobuyuki Yoshioka graduate student (at the time of research), and Associate Professor Hosho Katsura applied a mathematical structure called the Onsager algebra to show that a model in which the quantum many-body scars state occurs can be constructed by a mechanism different from that reported previously. The conventional quantum many-body scarred model was mainly the undisturbed model with a structure called translational symmetry, but in this study, the quantum many-body scar state that is stable against some kind of disorder is the first in the world exactly shown.

It is expected that this research will open up new directions for future research on quantum many-body scar states and thermal equilibration, and lead to further development in these fields.
