Astrophysics and Astronomy (A8)

Research Areas:
High-Energy Astrophysics, Cosmic-Ray Physics, Gravitational-Wave Astrophysics, Optical and Infrared Astronomy, Radio Astronomy, Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics, Dark Matter Search
Overview:
Astrophysics aims at (1) understandings of the origin and evolution of the universe, and (2) exploration of physical phenomena under extreme environments such as high temperature, high density, and high magnetic fields. In this sub-course, world-leading researchers are conducting experimental and observational studies in this field, using ground-based, underground, and space facilities. The exciting nature of the universe is being unveiled through extensive observations of a wide range of electromagnetic waves, various cosmic rays, neutrinos and gravitational waves.
