Job description: Department of Physics at the University of Tokyo is seeking candidates for a project research associate position to conduct researches funded by Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST). The successful applicant will conduct research within this project's scope and supervise graduate students. The successful candidate will collaborate with Prof. Satoru NAKATSUJI to conduct (1) experimental researches on fabrication of thin film and nanoscale structure of topological materials or (2) researches of high precision measurements of novel phenomena of nanoscale structure of topological materials. (The successful candidate is expected to focus on one of the two subjects above, (1) or (2).) The successful candidate is also expected to play an active role in supervising laboratory activities of the graduate students.

2.Terms of employment and Renewal of Contract:
Starting date: As soon as possible.
The first contract will be ended on March 31, 2023 and will be renewable annually up to March 31, 2030.
Annual renewal will be determined based on the budget situation, the progress of the assigned duties, the amount of the work at the end of the contract period, attitude, overall work performance, health condition, and other factors.

3.Probation Period:
Six months from the starting date of employment

The successful applicant should hold a Ph.D. in a relevant research area by the start of employment.

7.Working Hours:
Discretionary work system for professional work applies and working hours will be deemed as 7 hours and 45 minutes per day.

8.Days off・Leave:
Saturdays, Sundays, Holidays, and the year-end and New Year holidays (December 29 to January 3)
Annual Paid Leave, Special Leave, etc.

9.Salary and Benefits:
An annual salary system will be applied, which will be determined based on qualifications, ability, and experience.
Commuting allowance (up to JPY 55,000 per month) if the payment conditions are satisfied.

The successful applicants will be automatically enrolled in the insurance from the Mutual Aid Association of MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology) and Employment Insurance.
