【要旨】
We explore the potential of virtual reality (VR), metaverse environments, and hybrid multisensory experiences as innovative tools for scientific research, public outreach and education. In particular, we examine how these technologies can enhance engagement, memory, and understanding across disciplines. A key focus is on how immersive experiences can leverage the brain’s natural ability for pattern recognition, enabling users to grasp complex scientific concepts more intuitively through visual, spatial, and interactive cues. A number of case studies and prototypes developed by VIS - Virtual Immersions in Science, a spinoff company of the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, will be introduced to make the case that immersive media, supported by rigorous scientific content, contributes to the creation of innovative formats for learning, science dissemination and research.
